Brownlee Lumber, Inc. is seeking an Operations Forester to join our Forestry Team. This role focuses on managing logging crews, ensuring quality timber standards for the sawmill, and strengthening the operational connection between the woods and the log yard.
The Operations Forester will be responsible for overseeing active harvests, guiding contractors toward sawmill-grade quality expectations, and ensuring harvested timber aligns with production and inventory targets at our facilities near Brookville, Pennsylvania.
Candidates may reside in Western Pennsylvania but must be willing to travel throughout the region.
Manage logging crews to ensure safe, efficient, and standards-driven harvesting operations.
Establish and reinforce clear quality expectations that align with sawmill and kiln requirements.
Provide field-level leadership to improve log merchandising, grading outcomes, and value recovery.
Monitor active harvest sites to ensure compliance with forestry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Serve as the operational link between logging contractors and sawmill leadership.
Collaborate with Procurement and Sawmill Teams to align harvest timing with inventory and production goals.
Promote contractor accountability in safety, environmental stewardship, and timber utilization.
Identify opportunities to improve harvest efficiency, log quality, and overall yield to the mill.
Strong leadership presence with the ability to set clear expectations and hold crews accountable.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working relationships with contractors and landowners.
Deep understanding of hardwood quality standards and sawmill value drivers.
Practical problem-solving ability in dynamic field conditions.
Ability to communicate operational standards clearly and consistently.
Strong commitment to safety for employees, contractors, and the public.
Capable of working independently while remaining aligned with team objectives.
Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related field (or 3–5 years of equivalent field experience).
1–3 years of forestry field experience preferred; experience managing logging operations strongly desired.
Working knowledge of logging practices and understanding of hardwood sawmill operations.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and challenging terrain.
Proficiency with forestry mapping tools, handheld data systems, and basic computer applications.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
