Brownlee Lumber, Inc. is searching for a Production Supervisor (Kiln-Dried Lumber) to manage the day-to-day activities of kiln-dried lumber production while directly operating and optimizing our boiler / kilns.

The Production Supervisor (Kiln-Dried Lumber) will primarily report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and work with the Operations Specialist (OS) while managing kiln outputs and dry lumber deliverables to exceed customer expectations and achieve internal company goals. The Production Supervisor (Kiln-Dried Lumber) will take ownership of the kiln-drying production lifecycle from processing and preparing incoming green lumber loads, hands-on operation of the kilns, planning and scheduling kiln output, supervising the packaging /shipping / receiving teams and ensuring accurate and on-time shipment of quality dry lumber products.

Areas of Practice:
  • 80 % KD Production – Quality Assurance, Supervise Team Members, etc.
  • 20 % Kilns – Operation, Test Samples, Optimize Temperatures and Humidity, etc.

KD Production Responsibilities:
  • Direct and arrange team members according to continuously changing production requirements.
  • Exhibit a regular presence working hands-on with the dry lumber production and warehouse teams.
  • Lead 4DX team meetings and contribute to establishing leading and lagging indicators and overall departmental goals.
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and guidance to Team Leads and Team Members.
  • Assure high quality standards across all areas of dry lumber production by inspecting inbound lumber purchases, performing internal grade audits, and maintaining superior accuracy and appearance of lumber packaging.
  • Streamline the effective movement of lumber / materials per kiln and production line output, dry lumber inventory, and shipping and receiving activities.  
  • Review and complete forms documenting dry lumber sticking, packaging, inventory and shipment.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Leadership Team and the Senior Production Supervisor (Sawmill) to plan production schedules and operational goals.
  • Support Human Resources to enhance team member performance, job placement, employee relations including disciplinary actions, and promote environmental health and workplace safety.
  • Support Business Administration in data collection, report writing and program initiatives.
Kiln Responsibilities:
  • Plan and operate boiler and kilns to maximize dry lumber output and quality.
  • Coordinate with management to prescribe drying schedules to accommodate production goals.
  • Evaluate moisture content and regularly select, place, weigh, and test kiln samples.
  • Continually monitor and analyze dynamic data from multiple kiln charges to achieve drying specifications in coordination with the Operations Specialist (OS).
  • Ensure multiple kiln charges are properly dried and conditioned to exacting quality standards.
  • Contribute to preventative maintenance, scheduling equipment repairs and modifications, order / request supplies and materials, perform frequent inspections.
  • Maintain the boiler within operating parameters and in compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.  
  • Prepare and maintain required regulatory / business reports and records.
Basic Requirements:
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Associates / Bachelor’s in Business Administration or similar discipline preferred.
  • At least 2-5 years progressive supervisor / management experience in lumber and/or forest products manufacturing.
  • Must have NHLA Lumber Inspection Certificate or comparable experience with dry lumber inspection.
  • Working knowledge of boilers and kilns strongly preferred.
  • Maintains excellent interpersonal relationships with current and former colleagues.
  • Proven to be comfortable in a high-pressure, results oriented environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency with business-level software programs.
  • Intermediate math ability to perform calculations using basic equations.
  • Complete pre-employment criminal background and drug screening.
  • Maintain a drug-free workplace.
